What will we be remembered for?
I see thousands of Tumblr posts everyday. So many of them too easily depict the daft priorities of today’s teens and twenty-somethings. This is not a problem of Tumblr but one of a vast majority of the above said demographic who use it. The wondrous act of the “reblog”, where we have visually redefined the word “attractive” with LITERALLY the click of a button. To share any photo of a too-thin, barely clothed girl with tattoos in a push-up bra, then so boldly depigment it through a B&W filter and call it *voila* “artistic”. This is what our culture does. They slump in their lecture hall chairs at their 45K / year University, continuously raping the “reblog” button and tweeting nonsensical hashtags about how “boring” class is. The same culture that idolizes the classic beauty of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean but can’t tell you anything about their work. It’s this classless, Kardashian-ized, materialistic, youthful bandwagon that too many are hopping on. We’re hiding our true identity behind our iPhones and our vivaciously outspoken disposition to have, well, no real position on anything at all. Being young is not an excuse - sorry Drake. Because one day, we won’t be and I fear this is what we’ll remembered for.
